Course Descriptions

Amazing AZ

From animals to cowboys, from history to geography, this new class will explore all of the amazing and unique things about Arizona. Students will learn about our wonderful state through a variety of engaging, hands-on lessons.

Camping Camp (6/19 – 23 only)*

For the first time ever, Keystone Summer Camp is offering an outdoor camping excursion to Northern Arizona! This class will take place over 5 days, with the first 2 days being camping preparations including, meal prep, tent practice, and basic camping information. On Day 3, students and chaperones will drive up to spend 2 nights at a campground in Northern AZ. Upper Elementary teacher, Mr. Mike, will take a small group of students to camp, hike and fish. Students will return to school on Friday for 2:30 pm pick-up. Space is limited!

Cooking for Fun

Back by popular demand, this year’s cooking class features all new recipes focused on fun. Tie-dyed toast, breakfast sushi, and bread-in-a-bag are just a few of the tempting treats that students will make in this summer camp favorite. In addition to eating yummy creations, children will learn about math, science, etiquette, and more. Sign up your young chef today! Due to the number of students enrolled, we are unable to accommodate food allergies.

Crazy Crafts

What will they think of next? Is your student an “out of the box” thinker? Do they love to discover new “uses” for household items or craft supplies? If so, this is the perfect class for them! Crazy Crafts is for kids who love to experiment and invent using their hands and a variety of mediums. Each day will bring a new invention, creation or masterpiece for your young artist.

Keystone Cares (Community and Volunteering Club)

Keystone Kids love to help! In this class, students will learn about and participate in various community service projects. Help your student think beyond bake sales and be active in their desire to help others. Students in Keystone Cares will give back to the community in a variety of ways, including off-campus outings and clean-ups, and in-class activities.

Full STEAM Ahead

Each day will bring a new activity for students as they are presented a daily challenge and a “mystery bag” of supplies. Using STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) problem solving, students will work together to find creative solutions to presented challenges. Problem solving, cooperation and collaboration, and “out of the box” thinking are all stressed in this hands-on, skill-building class.

Mini Machines

Building, testing, engineering and design concepts will all be explored in this new, interactive class. Students will create a number of small machines which perform a variety of functions. Basic science, technology, engineering and mathematic (STEM) principals will be the foundation of Mini Machines and will help develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and critical thinking. But beyond that, this class is just plain cool.

Solar Summer

In this HOT (get it?) new class, students will explore the power and possibilities of solar power. Solar cooking and solar-powered projects will be incorporated into this study of the Sun’s potential. As the “Valley of the Sun”, Arizona is the perfect place to learn about and experiment with the power  of our “Mother Star”. Lessons will include cooking, experiments, and the study of solar powered energy.

Sports

Here’s a fun way to burn off energy! Students will learn the rules of different indoor and outdoor sports, and play in a variety of games. A great way to stay active during Arizona’s hottest times, this early morning class will keep your child moving!

Time Travelers

Hop aboard our “Time Machine” to take a most excellent adventure! From prehistoric living to unknown future advancements, students will learn about history in a fast-paced, imaginative way. Each day will bring a new adventure and new opportunity to live in another time. Live like a caveman, build the mighty pyramids, design your own future world, this class is a fun time for all.

Writing Poetry

Enjoy the creative and diverse world of poetry in this fun class. Various poetry styles, structures, and techniques will be explored, and will help develop writing skills in young writers. At the end of this class, students will take home a bound collection of their work.

*Camping is only offered to students currently enrolled at Keystone Montessori
